THE-181 Mime: Physical Theatre and Movement

In this course participants study and apply non-verbal techniques to create physical theatre performance. The course emphasizes the use and understanding of facial expressions, gestures, and pantomime. Various mime techniques, including those of Decroux and Montanaro, are taught.

1. Devise an original scene, with a clear beginning, middle, and end focusing on a physical conflict.
2. Devise and perform an original scene that includes a prescribed set of mime illusions including walks, running, climbing and defending ladders.
3. Design and apply an original makeup design for performance.
4. Devise, rehearse and perform and original production for public performance.
