THE-100 Introduction to Theater Production/Technology
Students learn about, and perform, work on theatrical production. Shop and studio work is complemented by lectures and demonstrations on the technical components of a theatre production. Topics covered include: designers and their functions; scenic and costume construction techniques; stage rigging, hardware and material; sound; stage procedures and safety. Simple drafting projects and the ability to read floor plans and stage elevations are stressed.
Course Learning Outcomes
- Identify the necessary hardware and material used in scenic construction.
- Demonstrate proper/safe use of the tools and materials needed to construct the scenic elements of a theatrical production.
- Construct and paint basic scenic structures such as platforms and flats.
- Analyze the effective use of scenery, lighting, sound, costumes, and properties in a theatrical production.
- Draft a simple ground plan with basic scenic elements.
- Read and interpret ground plans, elevations, and light plots.
