A survey of the work of women painters, sculptors, architects, designers, photographers, and craftspersons from earliest times to the present. Woman as image in the visual arts will also be examined as it relates to her role in society.

Course Learning Outcomes

  1. Identify and interpret the work of women artists.
  2. Recognize changes in artistic styles and tastes in response to changing social, economic and political conditions.
  3. Employ effective reading skills, through correlating what has been read in the text with class lectures
  4. Appraise the issues involved in the struggle of women artists’ achieving recognition.
  5. Apply the knowledge gained in the course towards his/her own development as a practicing artist.
