Counseling Services
Counseling Services provides a safe and confidential space where students can access mental health supports and services. Compassionate and experienced counselors help students navigate the challenges of college life, foster emotional well-being, and empower students to thrive academically and personally. Counseling staff are committed to creating a welcoming and inclusive space where students of all backgrounds feel heard and supported. Counseling Services offers students support and tools to help them manage life’s challenges and achieve balance and success.
Student Health Services
Student Health Services provides medical services and wellness resources to promote students’ physical and emotional well-being. Services include prevention and care for colds, flu, sore throats, aches, and pains; collection of required immunization records for students taking in-person classes; referrals to reproductive health providers in the community; referrals to community partners such as Trillium Health, Finger Lakes Family Care, Planned Parenthood, and Safe Harbors of the Finger Lakes; alcohol screening and alcohol and other drug education; tobacco cessation; physical activity strategies; healthy and inexpensive eating strategies; and injury prevention and care for strains, sprains, and wounds.
All Student Health Services are offered with a registered nurse. Students have access to the FLCC Student Health Portal, which is used to upload medical documentation, such as immunization records, and to securely message a Health Services provider with questions.
Virtual Care from Anywhere
TimelyCare, a telehealth program for students, is included in the Student Health fee. The service provides enrolled, credit-bearing students with access to virtual 24/7 medical and mental health care from anywhere.
TimelyCare offers on-demand support from counselors, doctors, nurse practitioners, and other providers. Services include unlimited medical, TalkNow, and health coaching visits, as well as up to 12 counseling appointments.
Confidentiality
Information shared with Counseling Services and Student Health Services staff will not be disclosed without the student’s written permission, except in unusual circumstances, such as imminent danger to the student or someone else, reports of sexual harassment or sexual violence as required by Title IX legislation, or a court subpoena.
Student Basic Needs
Basic needs support services are located within the Center for Student Well-Being. FLCC recognizes the difficulty students may face in ensuring that their basic needs are met. The College offers a number of services to minimize these barriers and support student success, including a Food Cupboard, assistance with transportation expenses, referrals to community agencies, and, for students experiencing a financial emergency, a student emergency fund sponsored by the FLCC Foundation.
Additional supports include assistance with housing and food insecurity through the SUNY Homelessness Liaison, assistance with SNAP benefits, and access to additional resources through Single Stop.
Disability Services
The Disability Services Office provides individualized academic accommodations, such as extended testing time, assistive technology, and notetaking support, to ensure equitable educational access. To begin the process, students must complete a self-disclosure form through the Accommodate portal and provide documentation of diagnosis, such as an IEP or clinical letter.
Once accommodations are approved by the Disability Services Manager, the office will notify the student’s instructors of approved accommodations. These notifications will be distributed again at the beginning of each semester in which the student is enrolled at FLCC.
Through the Disability Services Office, students also have access to Educational and Career Coaching for time management, study strategies, organizational skills, resume writing, mock interviews, and more.
Community Standards
FLCC promotes a safe and positive learning environment in and out of the classroom. All students attending the College accept individual responsibilities and are held accountable through FLCC’s community standards.
Community Standards policies and procedures are managed by staff in the Center for Student Well-Being. These policies and procedures encourage students to meet the highest standards of conduct possible while attending FLCC. The specific policies managed through Community Standards include the Student Code of Conduct, the Non-Discrimination Policy, the Title IX Policy, and the Academic Grievance Policy.
Sensory Room
The sensory room in the Center for Student Well-Being is a designated area designed to help students regulate their emotions and sensory needs. The room provides a calming environment where students can take a break, self-regulate, and manage feelings of stress, overstimulation, or anxiety.
The sensory room includes tools and activities such as soft lighting, fidget toys, sensory bins, calming visuals, and comfortable seating to address various sensory inputs, including touch, sound, sight, and movement. The sensory room is available to all students and can be especially beneficial for students with sensory processing challenges, autism, ADHD, or anxiety.
