Title IV Authorization to Use Aid to Pay Non-Institutional Charges
Federal financial aid funds are generally applied to institutional charges directly related to a student’s education, including tuition and mandatory fees assessed to the student’s account. In certain situations, federal financial aid may also be used to pay other eligible educational charges if the student provides authorization to the College.
A Title IV Authorization Form allows Finger Lakes Community College to apply federal financial aid funds, including Federal Pell Grants, Federal Direct Loans, and Federal PLUS Loans, toward charges beyond tuition and mandatory fees.
Additional charges that may be covered through a Title IV Authorization include:
- Bookstore charges for course materials and supplies
- Housing charges
- Meal plans
- Parking fees
- Other eligible educational expenses
Without a completed Title IV Authorization Form on file, federal financial aid funds may only be applied to allowable institutional charges permitted under federal regulations.
Students who wish to use federal financial aid to cover additional charges, including purchases made through the FLCC Bookstore, must complete the Title IV Authorization agreement available through MyFLCC.
Once the agreement is completed, students whose financial aid exceeds their semester charges may be eligible to use available bookstore credit for educationally related books, supplies, course materials, and equipment.
Students may revoke or modify their Title IV Authorization at any time by contacting the Financial Aid Office. Changes to authorization preferences may affect how future financial aid disbursements are applied to student account charges.
