Notification of Financial Aid Status and Offer
College email addresses are assigned to all applicants at Finger Lakes Community College. The Financial Aid Office uses FLCC email and MyFLCC to communicate with students regarding financial aid application status, required documentation, eligibility updates, and estimated financial aid offers.
Students are expected to check their FLCC email and MyFLCC regularly and are responsible for reviewing and responding to information sent by the College, including during periods when classes are not in session.
FLCC provides students who are eligible for financial aid with a financial aid offer through MyFLCC. A financial aid offer outlines the types and estimated amounts of financial aid a student may receive for a specific academic period, such as a semester or academic year.
Financial aid offers may include:
- Grants
- Scholarships
- Federal Work-Study
- Student loans
- Other forms of financial assistance
Offers may also include conditions or requirements associated with specific aid programs.
When preparing a financial aid offer, FLCC generally assumes the student will enroll full-time. If a student enrolls less than full-time, certain types of financial aid, including Federal Pell Grants, New York State TAP awards, student loans, and other aid programs, may be reduced or prorated based on enrollment level and program eligibility requirements. Financial aid eligibility and award amounts may also change if coursework is not applicable toward the student’s degree program or if additional information affecting eligibility is received.
Upon receiving a financial aid offer through MyFLCC, students may accept or decline certain types of financial aid, including student loans and Federal Work-Study. Students are responsible for notifying the Financial Aid Office of any outside scholarships, benefits, or other educational assistance not already included on their financial aid offer.
Financial aid is awarded up to a student’s Cost of Attendance (COA), which represents the estimated educational expenses associated with attending college for a specific period of enrollment. The Cost of Attendance establishes the maximum amount of financial aid a student may receive from federal, state, institutional, and other aid sources combined.
Financial aid eligibility is determined individually for each aid program as well as for the student’s total financial aid package. Student loan eligibility is determined as part of the financial aid offer and may be based on factors including:
- Annual federal loan limits
- Remaining financial need
- Dependency status
- Aggregate federal borrowing limits
- Enrollment level
- Other financial aid received
In accordance with federal regulations, student loan eligibility may be prorated if a student has less than a full academic year remaining in their degree or certificate program.
Changes in financial circumstances, enrollment status, academic progress, residency status, verification results, or other eligibility factors may result in adjustments to financial aid awards and revised award notices.
A student who completes all academic requirements for a degree or certificate program, but has not yet officially received the credential, is no longer eligible for additional federal financial aid for that program.
