A course for the general interest student, the intent of which is to heighten the student's awareness of the place of music in our culture and enhance his or her enjoyment of the art form itself. This course carries SUNY General Education The Arts credit.

Course Learning Outcomes

1. Identify and describe the elements of music, such as rhythm, dynamics, timbre, pitch, melody, and harmony, as individual elements.
2. Classify music according to media, genre, form, and style.
3. Attend musical performances, and critique them in writing using nomenclature from the class.
