Early College Scholars

FLCC recognizes young students who want to begin their college career early at FLCC. High school or homeschool students may enroll in coursework at FLCC. If eligible, they can earn a scholarship through the Early College Scholars (ECS) Program to help offset the cost of tuition.

Participation:
High school or homeschool students may participate in ECS to achieve different educational goals:

- Students may enroll in FLCC’s courses to get acclimated to a college setting while building their academic record.
- Students may enroll in FLCC’s courses to supplement their high school curriculum, based on an agreement with their school district. If the student successfully passes the FLCC courses, the school district may count the college courses toward high school graduation requirements.
- High school students may also be part of an early college program in which students take FLCC Gemini courses offered through their high school in addition to on-campus courses.

Scholarship Availability and Student Eligibility:
High school-aged students may apply for scholarship funding to offset tuition. The scholarship award is based on FLCC’s in-state part-time tuition rate for the academic year. The scholarship funds two-thirds of the tuition. The student is responsible for one-third of the tuition, plus student fees, textbooks, materials, and other expenses. Students under age 16 are limited to 7 credits through the scholarship. Students aged 16-18 may take up to 19 credits per semester, including the summer after high school completion. Audited courses, independent study, and repeat courses are not eligible for the scholarship.

To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must:

- Be 18 years of age or under and enrolled in an approved secondary curriculum (homeschool or high school).
- Satisfy FLCC course prerequisites.
- Be enrolled at FLCC (the scholarship cannot be applied until the student has registered for coursework) and submit a scholarship application.
- In subsequent semesters, the student must maintain a cumulative FLCC GPA of 2.5.
- Students must apply for the scholarship each time they enroll. It is not automatically renewable. ECS is only available until the summer after high school graduation, as long as the student is still age 18 or younger.
