RMET-225 Advanced Manufacturing & CNC Programming

This course will provide students with a thorough understanding of advanced manufacturing methods and technology. Topics include Additive Manufacturing (aka 3D Printing), Electric Discharge Machining (EDM), Injection and Compression Molding, and others. CNC Programming with CAD/CAM software will also be significant portion of the course. Course will culminate with students designing their own component to be machined in the labs at FLCC (as a remote course, they will submit the code and view real time video of execution on the FLCC equipment).

Course Learning Outcomes

  1. Select and justify appropriate manufacturing processes based on material properties, design requirements, and production constraints.
  2. Apply CAD/CAM tools to generate and verify CNC machine code for component fabrication.
  3. Critique and optimize CAM-generated code for maximum quality and efficiency.
  4. Implement and evaluate CNC machining operations to produce components that conform to manufacturing requirements.
