RMET-225 Advanced Manufacturing & CNC Programming
This course will provide students with a thorough understanding of advanced manufacturing methods and technology. Topics include Additive Manufacturing (aka 3D Printing), Electric Discharge Machining (EDM), Injection and Compression Molding, and others. CNC Programming with CAD/CAM software will also be significant portion of the course. Course will culminate with students designing their own component to be machined in the labs at FLCC (as a remote course, they will submit the code and view real time video of execution on the FLCC equipment).
Course Learning Outcomes
- Select and justify appropriate manufacturing processes based on material properties, design requirements, and production constraints.
- Apply CAD/CAM tools to generate and verify CNC machine code for component fabrication.
- Critique and optimize CAM-generated code for maximum quality and efficiency.
- Implement and evaluate CNC machining operations to produce components that conform to manufacturing requirements.
