MUS-270 Techniques of Audio Recording II

This is a continuation of audio one. Emphasis will be on gaining experience in the studio thru a variety of student projects. Students will study multi track theory, aural analysis, microphones, effects and sequencing.

Course Learning Outcomes

  1. Create recordings of musical ensembles
  2. Proper use of Avid's Pro Tools software (e.g. punch in recording, basic editing, basic automation concepts)
  3. Operate hardware during a studio recording (e.g. reamping techniques, advanced patchbay signal flow, outboard pre-amps, recording using a DI Box, cue sends from the console, overdubbing techniques)
  4. Analyze problems and possible solutions, as well as sonic characteristics, during the recording process
