ENG-095 Analytical Reading and Writing

ENG 095 emphasizes the strategic reading and writing skills needed for academic success. Students will read materials from multiple academic disciplines and respond in writing appropriate to both the rhetorical situation and to discipline-specific traditions. ENG 095 is a co-requisite course to ENG 101/Composition I for students who place into it via the FLCC placement process. Materials and assignments from Composition I serve as a source for discussions and activities in Analytical Reading and Writing. ENG 095 carries imputed (financial aid) credit.

  1. Demonstrate rhetorical reading strategies, e.g., analysis of readings for items such as purpose, context, genre, style, vocabulary, modalities, and audience.
  2. Demonstrate rhetorical writing strategies in order to write for a variety of audiences and in a number of genres, e.g., generative writing techniques and writing process basics: drafting, peer reviewing, revising, and preparing polished drafts.
  3. Demonstrate ability to use grammatical conventions and source attribution.
  4. Demonstrate ability to critically think through a variety of questions or academic tasks.
