NUR-230 Physical Assessment

This course focuses on the knowledge and skills necessary for conducting a complete nursing physical assessment. Lecture, demonstrations, small group interactions, and videotaped interviews focus on subjective assessment. Laboratory practices and audiovisual materials focus on objective assessment.

Outcomes

  1. Conduct, document, and evaluate a subjective health assessment involving a structured interview including describing and implementing various phases of the interview, making smooth transitions, and controlling the interview
  2. Organize, conduct and document a health assessment, consisting of a health history and physical examination
  3. Identify and document normal findings and begin to identify and document abnormal findings including appropriate nursing diagnoses based upon subjective and objective data
  4. Organize, conduct, and document appropriate regional physical examinations based upon subjective data
  5. Describe, utilize, and evaluate selected tools and methods for the health assessment
  6. Apply developmental and transcultural considerations across the lifespan when conducting a health assessment
