GST-116 College Study Strategies

An examination of learning theories and strategies necessary for college success. Topics include note taking, memory development, textbook reading, test taking, current research techniques, goal setting, and time and stress management. Students will also complete a community project. The course objective is for students to become independent learners who will succeed in college.

  1. Students will demonstrate an understanding of learning theories
  2. Students will demonstrate the ability to recognize the link between personal management (learning style awareness, making healthy choices, goal setting, time management) and college success
  3. Students will demonstrate the ability to understand and apply skills in areas such as note-taking, test-taking, and textbook reading
  4. Students will demonstrate the ability to conduct credible online searches, evaluate research materials, and write and revise documented research papers
  5. Students will apply the basics of oral communication through class presentations
  6. Students will demonstrate an awareness of community through a service project
