SSC-200 Introduction to Gerontology
An interdisciplinary examination of biological, sociological, psychological, anthropological, economic, political, demographic and medical perspectives as they bear upon the aging process and aged populations.
Outcomes
- Describe how the aging process and aged populations are studied from interdisciplinary perspectives.
- Be able to discuss and write about how factors such as gender, social class, ethnic status, cultural differences impact aging and elderly populations .
- Investigate and assess contemporary political and health care policies impact aging and older populations
- Identify financial, lifestyle, retirement and work related issues that effect aging and older populations.
- Identify contemporary and historical attitudes, stereotypes and myths about the aging process.
- Be able to describe special challenges faced by the elderly.
- Identify resources and programs available to the elderly.
- Identify medical/health care and quality of life issues faced by the elderly
