ARC-242 Professional Practice

ARC 242 Professional Practice is intended for Architectural Technology majors and students interested in construction law and the architectural profession. This class provides an overview of principles and practices in the administration of a construction project. Topics include construction means and methods, contractual obligations, and the architect's role leading up to and throughout the construction of a project. The material covered in this class is presented in a lecture format.

Outcomes

  1. Examine the architects' role and responsibilities leading up to and throughout construction phase in order to distinguish the architects' role in construction from that of a contractor and owner.
  2. Identify the life cycle of a building from its initial concept through design, bidding, construction, and use.
  3. Differentiate the contractual relationships between owner, architect and contractor through analysis of typical AIA contracts.
  4. Critically examine architectural works that have had a significant effect on the construction industry, architectural profession, or culture at large.
